Purpose
Everyone, everywhere, has a story. The purpose of establishing Words Uncaged (WU) at UC San Diego is to give students the opportunity to use their voices and be a part of something bigger than themselves. We serve as student support for our mother organization, Words Uncaged, which focuses on using education to give second chances to incarcerated individuals. As students, we strive to create diverse and informative curricula for workshops and events and participate in community outreach; in doing so, we invite students to step into the shoes of another. We implement themes such as narrative therapy and restorative justice into our mission to combat the stigma of those impacted by the system. Words Uncaged at UC San Diego is a safe space that inspires students to empower themselves and others while encouraging mutual healing for those involved.
