UCSD Student Organizations (2023 - 2024)

COMPASS

Service & Changemaking Category

Academic Year
2023
Purpose
COMPASS focuses on promoting social good utilizing mathematical modeling. We believe that tough optimization problems underlie the most pressing issues that our current society faces. We are dedicated to unrooting corruption, democratizing information, and prototyping better systems for a more sustainable future through both local and global scopes. Why create COMPASS? UCSD lacks a mathematical application-based club that specializes on deliverables. Some of the brightest undergraduates in the country are gathered right here in La Jolla; the positive influence we can have with COMPASS will be a difference maker for generations to come. We are committed to partnering with non-profit organizations in order to efficiently handle their internal and external matters, using our comprehension of applicational mathematics and data science. We would like to empower students to apply their knowledge and advance their individual and cooperational talents for the betterment of society. Our founding members have lived across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, bringing a diverse set of technical and cultural backgrounds- from finance and blockchain to human resources management.
