Purpose
The purpose of the Jazz club is to establish a culture and artistic movement at UCSD that has roots in the deep, rich history of the unique genre of freestyle music that is Jazz. Jazz is not just a musical style; it's a cultural and artistic movement that has greatly influenced all genres of music, art, and society. It celebrates individuality, creativity, and the power of spontaneous expression, making it a dynamic and ever-evolving genre. I want to pioneer a space where people, musicians or not, can listen to, play, and live a Jazz life: a life of expression and musical connection through the ever-so-sweet tune of a Jazz song. I want to share my love and curiosity of Jazz theory while also learning from other members and spread my appreciation for whom I consider the greats: Wes Montgomery, Herbie Hancock, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and more. With my members, I want to curate a UCSD Jazz record collection so we can listen to the greats and appreciate the melodies through the warmth of the vinyl.
