Purpose
Adolescent girls may experience lower confidence in their mathematics and science abilities compared with boys, even when their academic performance is similar. Over time, this confidence gap can contribute to girls feeling less capable of pursuing STEM related paths, shaping their self perception and future aspirations. Many also report doubting their intelligence or feeling unprepared to follow their desired careers, reflecting a broader cultural and social pattern rather than differences in actual ability. SISTERS seeks to close this confidence gap by helping younger girls develop belief in their own abilities while gaining early exposure to STEM concepts. Through hands on learning, mentorship, engaging discussions, and collaborative experiences, we aim to create a fun and supportive environment where campers build confidence, develop curiosity, and discover that science and engineering are accessible to everyone. By learning alongside other girls, participants can share experiences, practice teamwork, and encourage one another. The focus is not only on understanding STEM topics but also on reshaping self perception, so that girls see themselves as confident, capable learners, problem solvers, and future leaders with the confidence to pursue any path they choose.
