- Purpose
- WCO at UCSD exists to help students actually build things and grow as engineers, not just get through classes. We want a space where people can pick up real technical skills, work on projects that push them outside the classroom curriculum, and meet others who care about the same stuff. Whether you're a first year who just started coding or a senior who's already interned somewhere, the goal is the same: learn by doing, and do it with people around you. We run workshops on skills that don't always get taught in class, form project teams that build real software from start to finish, and bring in speakers and alumni who can talk honestly about what the industry actually looks like. We also care a lot about making sure beginners don't feel lost. Mentorship and onboarding are a real part of what we do, not an afterthought, because the tech industry can feel intimidating to break into and we want that barrier to be lower here. As part of the wider World Computing Organization network, our chapter also gets to tap into resources, ideas, and opportunities other chapters have already built, while shaping something that fits UCSD specifically.
