Purpose
CareCircle at UC San Diego is a student organization centered on the importance of compassionate, developmentally informed care, with a particular focus on youth and pediatric settings. The organization exists to support college students (both those with prior experience and those new to caregiving) who are interested in childcare, babysitting, tutoring, and pediatric or youth-focused fields. CareCircle aims to bring awareness to what it truly means to care for another individual, especially during formative stages of development. Through educational meetings, guided workshops, scenario-based practices, and mentorship opportunities, members learn to approach caregiving with emotional awareness, ethical responsibility, and confidence. Planned activities include discussions on child development, peer-led learning, and opportunities to participate in CPR and First Aid training or certification through external organizations. The organization also plans to host guest speakers such as child development professors, healthcare and education professionals, and mentors with experience working with children and youth. These conversations are designed to help students connect academic learning with real-world caregiving practices and understand the long-term impact that intentional, safe, and compassionate care can have on both child development and caregiver well-being. Ultimately, CareCircle at UC San Diego seeks to create a supportive community where students can develop meaningful, transferable skills, learn from one another, and engage in caregiving with purpose, safety, and genuine compassion.
