Purpose
The mission of the Yo-Yo Club at UC San Diego is to foster an inclusive campus community focused on exploring yo-yo as a creative art and performance skill, as well as fostering accessibility, personal development, and cultural engagement. The organization offers students the opportunity to learn yo-yoing regardless of level and provides beginner-friendly guidance, organized practices, and peer mentorship. The club also participates in the performance and practice of yo-yo, along with the academic and interdisciplinary study of the yo-yo and its mechanisms, history, culture, and organization as a competitive activity. Members discuss and research projects to creatively and educationally examine the phenomenon of the yo-yo as an expression of art and a sport. Through public performances, and collaborative and creative workshops, the Yo-Yo Club at UC San Diego enhances the campus community by offering opportunities to practice creativity, focus, build confidence, and relieve stress. The organization seeks to cultivate appreciation of participatory art and sport in the yo-yo and engage in meaningful discourse on its potential in performance, sport, and competition on an international level.
