Purpose
Empowering historically marginalized and underserved communities and youth to battle systems of oppression, trauma, violence, and poverty by centering youth leadership and delivering programming including conferences, summits, forums, workshops, campaigns, and grassroots projects. Key strategies of empowering youth include political/civic education and organization, youth leadership and mentorship, coalition building, mutual aid, community wellness, narrative change and research, and youth movement building. Past and ongoing projects include “Supplies for Solidarity” providing underserved families with access to necessary school supplies, “Abolition & Me: Stonewall’s Legacy” highlighting issues of prison labor and abuse in the criminal justice system, and the “Stand Up & Speak Out” bringing together underserved youth in California to contribute to youth-serving ethnographic research and hear from an immersive panel of activists, scholars, and movement leaders. New projects include “activation events,” which are community-based pop-up style social events that activate community members to engage in social justice and connect with peers.
