Purpose
The Design-Build-Fly (DBF) Competition requires student teams to design, fabricate, and demonstrate the flight capabilities of an electric-powered, radio-controlled aircraft that can best meet a given mission profile. The goal is a balanced design possessing good demonstrated flight handling qualities and practical manufacturing requirements while providing high vehicle performance. The contest provides a real-world aircraft design experience for engineering students by giving them the opportunity to validate their analytical studies. The competition is hosted by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) engineering society.
