Purpose
IEEE at UC San Diego is one of the largest IEEE Student Branch in the United States. We are part of the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, IEEE. We at the UC San Diego Student Branch do our best to provide students the skills they will need to be better professionals. We host technical and professional workshops, social events, and K-12 outreach events. In addition to these, we host a variety of large, annual events such as H.A.R.D HACK –our 24 hour hardware hackathon–, Reverse Career Fair, Robofest, and more! We offer multiple projects students can participate in to improve their technical skills and stand out to employers. Our projects are split into two categories: quarterly and annual. Quarterly projects are beginner oriented and no experience is necessary to join them. Throughout the quarter there are project oriented technical workshops and mentors to help students bring their ideas to life. At the end of each quarter, teams have the opportunity to present their project for prizes. Our annual projects require more experience to join and compete against varying institutions. We currently have 2 projects fitting within this category, Robocup Soccer, an autonomous soccer playing robot, and Supercomputing, competing in various competitions utilizing hardware located within the San Diego Supercomputer Center.
