Purpose
The purpose of Rooted @ UC San Diego is to create a safe space where students can build community, slow down, and reconnect with each other, themselves, and the earth. In the middle of everything happening in the world, we believe that caring for something living (even something small like a houseplant) can ground us and remind us that growth is still possible. Plants don’t just grow. They teach us patience, presence, and intention. As we care for them, we’re also caring for ourselves and one another. Plant care can be self-care. At Rooted @ UC San Diego, we see plants not just as something to keep alive, but as something that helps US feel more alive, too. Our mission is to use houseplants and plant care to nurture ourselves, build connection, and stay grounded in times that feel especially heavy, whether due to politics, current events, burnout, or just life. Through plant swaps, educational events, repotting parties, community hangs, and much more, Rooted @ UC San Diego is here for students who need a breather. We grow here. Emotionally, socially, and collectively. Everyone is welcome.
