Junior Hearts and Hands

Service Category

Academic Year
A doula is a non-medical individual that provides physical assistance and emotional support to a woman giving birth. Junior Hearts and Hands at UCSD is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to understanding the role of doulas in the medical world and how they empower women during birth. This will be done through understanding a doula’s role in the process of labor and birth and by having guest speaker share birth stories. This organization is also dedicated to help fundraise and provide support for UCSD Hospital’s doula program, Hearts and Hands. Furthermore, Junior Hearts and Hands will teach birthing classes to train students who would potentially like to become doulas. Note that membership in Junior Hearts and Hands does not guarantee that an individual will become a doula. Becoming a doula at the Hearts and Hands program is ultimately up to the decision of the program manager of Hearts and Hands.
