Purpose
Coalition for Abolition Medicine is a student-run, activist organization co-founded by trans & queer people of color at UC San Diego. We are committed to centering the intersectional experiences of BIPOC/QTBIPOC and marginalized patients and communities while deconstructing the racist and colonial foundations of dominant healthcare models and the medical industrial complex. We are committed to naming and dismantling systems of white supremacy, ableism, anti-trans/queerness, capitalism, cis-heteropatriarchy, militarism, and structural violence that have been used in service of colonialism in the foundations of western medicine and are pervasive in present clinical practice, medical training and curriculum today. We hope to transform (pre-) health foundations at the undergraduate and graduate levels to center abolitionist frameworks and decolonizing medicine.
