Real Food Challenge at UC San Diego
Service & Changemaking Category
- Academic Year
- 2025
- Purpose
- Our movement seeks to redirect university spending on food and beverage on campus toward local, ethical, and sustainable sources, particularly uplifting BIPOC producers and growers. RFC uses an intersectional approach, prioritizing “real food,” or food that incorporates our 5 values: local and community-based economies, environmental sustainability, valued workforce, animal welfare, and community health & nutrition. Through our campus organization, we aim to increase collaboration between students, faculty and producers regarding food systems on campus in an effort to educate, build community, and enact change on our campuses.
