Public Health Brigades

Service Category

Academic Year
Public Health Brigades at UCSD is a non-profit, student organization that will participate in one international service brigade per academic year. The brigade will be approximately seven to eight days long and will take place during a designated school break. The current country of emphasis for this chapter is Honduras, where the organization provides public health education and infrastructure in collaboration with Sociedad Amigos de los Niños, a private non-profit organization founded by Sister Maria Rosa Leggol. During the brigade, the purpose of this organization is to improve the overall health and living conditions of families living in various rural Honduran communities through the construction of in-home infrastructure projects. Through these projects, this organization’s primary mission is to help prevent the spread of contagious diseases and respiratory problems within the communities. In addition, student volunteers will work together to prepare an educational presentation on a given health topic (ie. dental hygiene, etc.) for students in the local community.
